Second Place Victory for Mock Trial Team

October 14, 2022

The Thomas Jefferson National Mock Trial Team came in second place last weekend at the “All Star National Challenge” competition.

Advocates Alex Sniezek (3L), Elizabeth Ramos-Evinger (3L), Andrea Adams (2L) and Teejan Saddy (2L) tried both sides of the criminal case of “United States v. Augie Sheppard”, which featured the charges of murder and retaliation against a witness.

For four weeks, the team practiced rigorously in the evenings and weekends on campus to prepare their case with the help of alumni coaches Michael Clowney (2021), Weston Caindec (2022), and Andréa Zamora (2022).

In Friday’s preliminary rounds, the team was victorious against Drake University and St. Mary’s School of Law. On Saturday’s quarter and semi-final rounds, the team brought two more wins against Touro University and University of Missouri.

On Sunday afternoon, the team learned they advocated their way to the prestigious All Stars Championship round against the University of Colorado.

The final round was live-streamed to a national audience as the Defense team tried the case before thousands. A close call of 3 judges to 2 – Thomas Jefferson School of Law took second place out of 23 law schools across the country. [Arizona State; Boston University; Cardozo; Charleston; Colorado; Connecticut; Drake; Elon; George Mason; Kansas; Alabama; Missouri; New York Law; University of Penn; Seton Hall; Southern Methodist; St. Mary’s; Touro; UNLV; Utah; West Virginia; Wisconsin]

Congratulations to Alex, Elizabeth, Andrea, and Teejan for their fierce advocacy and dedicated efforts!

Next month, the Trial Team is set to compete in the Association of Business Trial Lawyer (ABTL) Mock Trial Tournament hosted at the Edward J. Schwartz courthouse here in San Diego.
