Professor K.J. Greene presented at the Second Annual Sports Law Symposium at Santa Clara Law on September 8.

The conference was titled Intensifying Sports Law Issues: Concussions, Steroids, Labor Strife and the Use of Player Images.

“My talk on rights of publicity and performance rights gap in IP law, with reference to black performers, was well-received,” said Professor Greene. “The real interest is in how the right of publicity impacted African-Americans as personas and performers and I just scratched the surface. It is part of a larger project on how performers are generally under-protected in IP law, whether copyright or right of publicity.”

The honored special guest at the conference was Hall of Fame football great Jim Brown, whom Professor Greene was thrilled to meet.

“Jim Brown is a legend, on the field and for his support of civil rights and the rights of athletes,” said Professor Greene. “He is a superstar who looks out for regular Joes. “
