Thomas Jefferson School of Law Holds Speed Networking Event and Reception
November 8, 2017
On October 26, students and attorneys gathered together on the 3rd floor for a Speed Networking Event and Reception hosted by Thomas Jefferson School of Law’s Career Services and co-sponsored by the Emerging Lawyers Division of the San Diego County Bar Association (SDCBA) and the Thomas Jefferson School of Law Student Bar Association. In attendance were 18 lawyers from the San Diego community and approximately 30 students from all class levels.
Prior to the event, students were given guidance on best networking practices and they developed their elevator pitch. During the Networking portion, students met with an attorney for approximately five minutes practicing these skills and then would move on to the next attorney giving them the chance to make several connections over the course of the hour. A reception was held after the speed networking to allow students and attorneys a chance to develop their connections further.
“This was a unique opportunity for students to pursue their professional development and it was wonderful to see so many students take full advantage of it,” said Thomas Jefferson School of Law Career Services Recruiting Coordinator. “They were professional, made connections, improved their confidence, and the attorneys took notice!”
Both students and attorneys had a lot of positive feedback from the event. The attorneys were impressed with the students drive and professionalism. The students were excited about the chance to practice their communication skills in a more comfortable environment and network with local attorneys. Connections were made and one student has already received a spring internship as a result of her networking.
