On May 1, 2019, the San Diego County Bar Association recognized its 2019 SDCBA Annual Service Awards recipients at the Westin Emerald Plaza in downtown San Diego. Thomas Jefferson School of Law was proud to have an active presence in the ceremonies. Professor Lilys McCoy, currently SDBCA President, served as the Master of Ceremonies. Peter Quon (’77) was given the Outstanding Attorney of the Year Award for his long, distinguished career with the California Office of the Attorney General and more recently with the San Diego Office of the District Attorney. For over 30 years, Quon has been an active contributor to the diversity bar associations and has also mentored hundreds of law students and young attorneys. His service began shortly after graduating from Thomas Jefferson when he co-founded the Pan Asian Lawyers of San Diego. Quon regularly invites our students to join him on visits to federal judicial chambers and to bar association dinners. Kimberly Swierenga (’12) was honored with the Community Service Award. Swierenga is regular volunteer at ElderHelp of San Diego, the Food Bank, and the West Center (assisting the elderly). In addition, she serves as a board member of the Consumer Attorneys of San Diego. Finally, Thomas Jefferson adjunct professor Mark Cumba was given the Service to the Legal Community Award.
