Thomas Jefferson School of Law Associate Dean Susan Bisom-Rapp Participates in XV International Conference in Commemoration of Professor Marco Biagi

April 11, 2017

Last month, Thomas Jefferson School of Law Associate Dean of Faculty Research and Scholarship and Professor Susan Bisom-Rapp participated in the XVth International Conference in Commemoration of Professor Marco Biagi, an event hosted annually by the Marco Biagi Foundation at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia in Modena, Italy. This year’s event, which took place on March 20 – 21,  was on the theme of Digital and Smart Work. The conference program is available via this link: http://www.fmb.unimore.it/on-line/en/home/international-conference/xv-international-conference-in-commemoration-of-professor-marco-biagi/programme.html

While at the conference, Dean Bisom-Rapp spoke several times. She chaired a panel on the Impacts of Digitalization on Employment Relations, spoke on the final plenary session summing up the themes of the conference, and was featured at an Author Meets Readers session.  The latter focused on her co-authored book, Lifetime Disadvantage, Discrimination and the Gendered Workforce (Cambridge University Press 2016) (with Malcolm Sargeant).  After she presented the book’s general thesis, Dean Bisom-Rapp’s Marco Biagi Foundation colleague Professor Tindara Addabbo served as the discussant.  Questions were thereafter taken from the audience.

Dean Bisom-Rapp, who serves on the Marco Biagi Foundation’s Academic Advisory Board, has been participating in the annual Biagi conference every year beginning in 2007.  As she notes, “Modena has over the years become my home-away-from-home. I look forward to this conference both to see old friends and meet new scholars, who are the future of our field.”  The Marco Biagi Foundation offers an interdisciplinary PhD in Labor, Development and Innovation, which draws students from many countries. Thomas Jefferson School of Law signed a collaborative agreement with the Marco Biagi Foundation and the University of Modena and Reggio Emelia in 2015.
