Professor Meera E. Deo has been selected as the new Director of the Law School Survey of Student Engagement

March 14, 2018

Thomas Jefferson School of Law Professor Meera E. Deo, J.D., Ph.D. has been selected as the new Director of the Law School Survey of Student Engagement (LSSSE), effective January 1, 2018. She notes, “I am honored to lead LSSSE during this transformative moment in legal education. As law schools realize the importance of empirical data and formal assessment in preparing our students for legal practice, partnering with LSSSE can help improve both academic and professional outcomes.” Throughout her academic career, Professor Deo’s scholarship has utilized original empirical research to examine legal education, including national, longitudinal, and mixed-method studies of the law student experience and the first formal empirical study of the personal and professional lives of legal academics. UCI Professor Bryant Garth, who is a TJSL Trustee and LSSSE Advisory Board Member, notes, “Professor Deo’s scholarly record, technical skills, and record of leadership in the core values important to LSSSE make her an ideal choice to lead the organization at a critical time in its development.” LSSSE surveys law students about their activities, experiences, and satisfaction in law school, and uses the data generated from its survey to help law schools improve student outcomes.
