Five TJSL Students Receive Scholarship Awards from San Diego La Raza Lawyers Association
November 4, 2019
At the recent San Diego La Raza Lawyers Association Scholarship Fund’s Annual Gala, five TJSL students received scholarship awards. The five students were Jubani Estrada (’20), Olga Gonzalez (’20), Daniel Granados (’20), Rocio Ortiz (’21), and Fatima Rodriguez (‘20). Estrada and Rodgriguez were given the Justicia Scholarship which recognizes a student’s dedication to criminal defense. Ortiz was given an award sponsored by the law firm Pillsbury. Each student was awarded between $2,000-$2,500. The evening’s main speaker was California Attorney General Xavier Becerra, who spoke of being the first in his family to attend a university and law school. He encouraged attendees to continue to pave the way for others to follow in their footsteps.
Special kudos go out to Ben Aguilar (’11), the chair of the scholarship committee. Aguilar and his fellow committee members worked tirelessly to raise the $40,000 in scholarship money awarded to San Diego-area law students at the gala. The evening’s title sponsor was CaseyGerry, whose table included attorneys Srinivas Hanumadass (’03) and Camille Guerra (’04) from their firm. Other table sponsors with alumni present included were D’Egidio, Shah & Townsend (Pratik Shah, ’12) and the Legal Aid Society of San Diego (Lorena Slomanson ’03).
