Be Proud and Eat Cake!

In an effort to promote public awareness of National Coming OUT Day and on behalf of  the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community (LGBT) the TJSL OUTLaw organization offered cake and coffee to fellow students, faculty and staff in the Student Lounge on the 5th floor on Thursday, October 11.

“National Coming Out Day is a means to promote awareness for equality and civil rights, and hopefully open the eyes of many that still may discriminate against the LGBT community,” said OUTlaw Co-President Sara Denton. “Today OUTlaw hopes to provide resources and information on ‘coming out’ and to encourage our fellow students to be out and be proud of who they are. We were pleased to have so many come out  to support our efforts and we hope today offers guidance to many and encourages straight allies to continue to stand up for their friends or loved ones that may be struggling with their identity.”

National Coming Out Day (NCOD) is an internationally observed civil awareness day celebrating individuals who publicly identify as bisexual, gay, lesbian, transgender. The national holiday is observed annually by members of the GLBT community and others on October 11.
