Alumna Lacy J Lodes Gives Social Media Workshop at SDCBA
May 4, 2012
TJSL Alumna Lacy J Lodes ‘08 recently discussed corporate use of social media and the legal implications, including trends, key challenges as well as the impact of social media on business transactions. The April 23 presentation was hosted by the San Diego County Bar Association’s Business Law Section.
Becky Carroll, the Social Media Contributor for NBC/TV San Diego, opened the presentation with a positive marketing perspective of how and why you should be using Social Media. Ms. Lodes continued the discussion addressing how to prepare your legal department for the challenges of incorporating Social Media into your current programs. She incorporated her real world experiences to remind the audience that although the rules haven’t changed, the game certainly has. In 2011, Sweepstakes issues were the 3rd most frequent complaint to the FTC. She warned that Social Media is something a company should be involved with, however, for a corporation internal use of Social Media must be regulated. The other panelist was Ethna M.S. Piazza, Esq.
Overall, it was a well-attended and very informative event.
