Professor Chu is a longtime criminal prosecutor focusing primarily on health care fraud, public corruption, and other white collar crimes. Before becoming a prosecutor she clerked for Judge Barry Ted Moskowitz in the Southern District of California and was a litigation associate at O'Melveny & Myers in New York City.

Ms Chu graduated cum laude from NYU School of Law, where she was a staff editor for NYU’s Review of Law and Social Change, won the Leonard Henkin award for a paper on the equal protection clause of the 14th Amendment, and argued a case before the Second Circuit Court of Appeals as a member of the Civil Rights Clinic.  She earned a Masters Degree from Stanford University School of Education and an undergraduate degree in Human Biology from Stanford University.
