2015 National Sports Law Negotiation Competition will run from September 25 through September 27

The Center for Sports Law and Policy (CSLP/Center) at Thomas Jefferson School of Law will be presenting the 2015 National Sports Law Negotiation Competition (NSLNC) on Friday, September 25, through Sunday, September 27, 2015. The Competition is held at Thomas Jefferson School of Law.
The history and vision of the National Sports Law Negotiation Competition is that it was created by sports and academic professionals with the needs and wants of the law student in mind as they enter the legal community. Brandon Leopoldus ’10, Randy Grossman ’94, Sam Ehrlich ’14, and Director Jeremy Evans ’11 comprise the NSLNC Board, although select student members of the Center in of the Sports Law Fellowship assist in the drafting and sparing of the negotiation fact patterns.
The NSLNC focuses on current issues in sports each year and facilitates students, coaches, and judges to negotiate and make decisions on these sports topics in an academic setting. The fact patterns negotiated allow students to focus on more than one area of sports law, including: contract negotiation, trading of players, salary demands, endorsement contracts, athlete and sports professionals family and personal issues, and intellectual property among others.
The fact patterns for the competition focus on current issues in the sports world, and allow students to negotiate more than one area of sports law topics, including: contract negotiation, trading of players, salary demands, endorsement contracts, athlete and sports professionals family and personal issues, and intellectual property.
On Friday, September 25, attendees will attend a ‘Friday Night Mixer’ among competitors, coaches, and sports professionals on the 8th floor roof-top of Thomas Jefferson School of Law. For Saturday, September 26, Competition Rounds One and Two are held, with a 8th floor roof-top Ceremony to follow, announcing the four finalist teams. On Sunday, September 27, the Final Round will include scoring judges Ari Segal, Special Assistant to the CEO of the Anaheim Ducks and President of the San Diego Gulls Hockey Team, Tom Seidler, Ownership Group of the San Diego Padres, and San Diego Superior Court Presiding Judge David Danielsen.
Once the final competition comes to a close and the teams are ranked and awarded, teams and guests will have the opportunity to enjoy the rest of their Sunday afternoon and explore “America’s Finest City,” San Diego, California. Various accomodations may be found on the NSLNC website.
Going on its fifth year, the National Sports Law Negotiation Competition looks to continue its tradition of excellence and will most certainly present an educating and exceptional experience for anyone interested in sports. “I am excited about this year’s competition and the interesting strategies that competitors may use,” said NSLNC Board Member Brandon Leopoldus ’10.
