The 2011 Public Interest Law Foundation (PILF) “Silent Auction Extraordinaire – A Night Under the Stars” lived up to its name and then some.  The lobby of the law school was elegantly decorated and the event drew a large crowd to bid on the items, sample the food and enjoy the festive atmosphere.

Some of the silent auction items included Bowling with Professors, lunch with several different twosomes of professors, Padres tickets and Bar-Bri gift certificates, as well as weekend getaway packages and gift baskets.

The live auction was handled by Professor Thom Golden, whose job it was to keep upping the bids and make the most money for PILF! The bidding was spirited!

The big ticket item of the evening was 2 four-day passes to the sold-out Comic Con which went for $1,000!

According to PILF president Elizabeth Knowles, who organized the auction: “I was thrilled about the amazing turnout and the enthusiasm of all of our guests.  I could not have seen our vision for this event come to fruition more perfectly or seamlessly than it did and I have many people to thank for that. It was in every way the elegant and exciting evening I hoped for it to be. It was such a pleasure to host attorneys from the public interest legal community and to acknowledge how valued our relationships with their organizations are by honoring them. My hope is that through our event, PILF has conveyed to the community a message of its commitment and our school’s commitment to public interest law. For many of our guests, it was their first visit to our new building and the ooohs and ahhhs about our stunning facility were plenty.”

As for the final count on funds raised, the auction committee has totaled the silent and live auction earnings at $12,435 exceeding last year’s earnings.

“I can’t wait for the students to be awarded these helpful scholarships to support their public interest work this summer,” said Knowles.  “It feels good to know that the auction will fund living expenses for students working compassionately for the underserved, and we had fun making it happen.”
